Despite being relegated to the Bundesliga 2 for the 2017/18 season, Darmstadt are still thinking about their fans before anything else.

For the second season in a row, in a partnership deal with the city council, the club is offering local fans on low incomes the chance to watch their beloved team for absolutely no cost.

The tickets will be valid for every match at Darmstadt’s Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor during the season.

"It is important to us that socially disadvantaged people have the opportunity to visit the games of the Lilies,” said club president Rüdiger Fritsch.

“So it is a matter of course for us to give free tickets again to low-income fans."

Darmstadt are a club well-known for supporting their fans, with this not being the first time that local disadvantaged fans will be able to watch their club for free.

The club’s stadium was also re-named the Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Böllenfalltor in 2016/17 following the tragic passing of fan Jonathan Heimes, who had a long-term battle with cancer. His story was one of huge inspiration during Darmstadt’s rise to the Bundesliga.
